Ingalls Memorial Hospital

Lighting Energy Efficiency Treatment

ENGIE Services U.S. (ENGIE) implemented an energy efficient lighting project at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, IL that significantly reduced energy use, and greatly facilitated ongoing maintenance. Located on a 34-acre campus, the 582-bed general medical and surgical hospital was able to simplify their lighting systems, introduce controls to eliminate waste and save energy, and achieve over a quarter million dollars in annual electric savings.

The Partnership

ENGIE worked with the Hospital’s physical plant managers to identify over 65 different types of lighting fixtures throughout the facility, which were complicating maintenance immensely. The ENGIE team designed a solution to reduce the number of types of lighting fixtures in the facility to just five. Additionally, ENGIE’s lighting design reduced the number of four-foot fixtures in the facility by approximately 3,600.

Over 9,000 fixtures were retrofitted with more efficient technology, including super T8, compact fluorescent, and reduced-wattage fixtures. ENGIE also installed nearly 300 occupancy sensors to reduce energy costs in unoccupied areas.

3 Dimensions of Impact

ENGIE is committed to building three dimensions of impact in every customer’s future:

  • Supporting People
    • In addition to the main goal of energy savings, ENGIE’s design also focused on standardizing lighting technologies to facilitate maintenance and create a more unified lighting environment for the comfort of patients and staff.
  • Saving Money
    • Energy efficiency measures designed and implemented by ENGIE reduced energy costs by more than $286,900 annually, with an additional $31,500 yearly savings on maintenance costs.
  • Protecting the Environment
    • The energy efficiency measures offset 2,294 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually, the equivalent to removing 491 cars from the road for a year.
